Tommy founded Merkel Constructions in 1998 after a decade designing tall buildings across Europe, and holds a doctorate in structural engineering. Since then they have led the practice through more than six hundred commissions, from super-tall frames to fjord-spanning bridges, and still review every major structural scheme the studio puts its name to.

Andreas co-founded Merkel Constructions and leads its engineering team, carrying a scheme from first concept through to the site work that proves it. He spends part of every month on site, and sets the inspection regime that every commission the studio delivers is signed off against.
